I wish that I could lay claim to this piece, as it's very good. It was passed along to me and I don't know the original author…thanks for the contribution.
YOU SHOULD ONLY HIRE TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE!
In his new book Zero to Sixty, Bob Franquiz writes that he thinks you should hire only two types of people: products and projects.
According to Franquiz, products are the people
I couldn’t agree more and would add that another type of Project is also the individual who is in the biz for 20 years with 20 individual years, so be careful while the Product is in for 20 with longer intervals. Do Projects really cost less? I’m not so sure. While there may be an upside because their compensation may be less, their high learning curve and our tendency as small businesses (not always correct) of putting folks into the mix quickly may end up costing way more in the long run in terms of errors, omissions, committed staff time to train and decrease patient satisfaction because the project was on the project too soon.
With recent college grads having such a tough time finding jobs, they offer great plug in opportunities but be prepared for job jumping as they are looking for now but also quick to change jobs along with the rest of the Gen Xer’s or Gen Yer’s. This is a great reason why constantly looking for qualified individuals is smart business.
